Fears have been voiced that a police shake-up could impact on work being carried out across Keighley to tackle law-flouting motorists
Officers from West Yorkshire Police Operation Steerside, formed in 2016 specifically to address illegal driving, are now being deployed into neighbourhood policing teams.
Reacting to the news, Robbie Moore MP said:
“Unfortunately, politicians in our area are all too quick to celebrate announcements without asking the tough questions. Our town needs clear answers about whether this change actually means more officers or is simply just a re-organisation which could dilute the focus on tackling dangerous driving, speeding and illegal off-road biking which has plagued our town for years.
As our local MP, I have seen first hand the brilliant targeted enforcement work Steerside has been doing, and I am now seeking assurances from West Yorkshire police that this re-organisation won’t simply mean a dilution of existing operations — particularly against the off-road biking epidemic causing misery for so many in our rural areas. These specialist patrols must not be lost in a wider restructure.
I will be holding West Yorkshire Police and the new Labour Government to account every step of the way to ensure Keighley sees real, on-the-ground results, and not simply a game of musical chairs.”
