Ilkley and Keighley MP Robbie Moore, joined the Keighley Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets for the fifth monthly Spellman Care Veterans Cafe this week at Steeton Court Nursing Home.

The gathering brought together veterans, community members, and special guests for an afternoon of camaraderie and connection.

Residents from across the four local Spellman Care homes thoroughly enjoyed engaging in lively conversations with their local Member of Parliament and learning more about the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

A particular highlight of the cafe was the interactive session led by the cadets, who generously taught some of the residents how to tie various naval knots. This proved to be a delightful activity for all involved, with both cadets and residents thoroughly enjoying the hands-on experience and the shared learning opportunity. The sight of nimble fingers, both young and old, mastering the intricacies of a reef knot or a clove hitch created a truly heartwarming atmosphere.

Robbie Moore MP said:

"These events are a brilliant way of bringing together veterans from across our local community to socialise, make new friends and recognise the incredible service so many have given to our country.

It was a pleasure to chat with residents, many of whom had many an interesting story to tell and also to see our brilliant Keighley Sea Cadets in attendance - who always impress everyone at these events - our Sea Cadets are amazing!

A huge thank you Spellman Care and the amazing staff at Steeton Court for supporting our local veterans.

Do attend the next café at Ghyll Royd Care Home on 19th June! Steeton Court Nursing Home"
