Local MP Robbie Moore and Addingham resident Jan Greenwood have joined forces to raise money for the British Liver Trust in its fight against liver cancer.
Mr Moore and Ms Greenwood, who have both lost family members to liver cancer, held a fundraising coffee morning at Addingham Memorial hall to help raise money for the trust.
More than 18,000 people die from liver disease and liver cancer every year, with hospital admissions due to liver disease rising by almost 80% in the last decade
Liver disease deaths have increased by more than 400% in two generations driven by obesity, alcohol and viral hepatitis β adding to huge avoidable pressures on the NHS and economy.
The British Liver Trust Charityβs latest policy report β Time to act on liver health β sets out clear action the new Government needs to take to reduce avoidable hospital admissions and deaths and improve services and care for all liver patients.
Robbie Moore MP said:
βIt was brilliant to use the opportunity, working alongside Addingham resident Jan Greenwood to raise funds for the British Liver Trust - an organisation which is close to both Jan and my hearts. Both of us have lost very close relatives to liver cancer, and we are therefore so very grateful to all who kindly donated some money to a fantastic cause and took part in the raffle. A huge thanks to Jan for her dedication to such an important charity.β
