MP demands Attorney General call in 'pathetic' sentences for Keighley grooming gang members

Keighley and Ilkley's local MP Robbie Moore has written to the Attorney General asking him to urgently call in the sentences handed out to eight men from Keighley who were part of a grooming gang that carried out multiple rapes of two young innocent girls in the 1990s

Three of the men were sentenced last Friday at Bradford Crown Court, and 5 of the men were convicted last year.

Despite a multitude of horrific crimes - including multiple rape convictions, and aggravating factors including providing drugs and alcohol to the victim, these men were only handed sentences ranging up to 9 years.

One man, convicted of 11 rapes was given the equivalent sentence of 1 year and 2 months per rape incident.

Reacting, Robbie Moore MP said:

"These sentences are so ridiculous and completely disproportionate to the severity of the crime. We know that time and time again all levels of the British State have failed 1000s of girls across our country. These sentences, I fear are more of the same.

I promise I won’t leave any stone unturned in rooting out not only the perpetrators but also holding our failing local council, social services, justice system, and government to account. We cannot go on like this. We need a national inquiry with full statutory powers - Nothing less than that will suffice."
