Local MP Robbie Moore has said he hopes the new Airedale Hospital will be among the most modern hospitals in the country after it was revaled patients in the new hospital are set to benefit from their own ensuite bedrooms.

It comes after the appointment of a new design team to lead the next phase of the hospital’s redevelopment.

Airedale NHS Foundation Trust has brought in P+HS Architects alongside expert structural, mechanical and electrical engineers to begin shaping the vision for the new hospital.

This work will take place over the next 6–12 months, with full input from patients, staff and local healthcare partners.

Under the new Hospital 2.0 design model model, the new Airedale Hospital is set to be built with 100% single ensuite rooms for patients, representing a major shift away from traditional multi-bed bays and significantly enhancing privacy, dignity and infection control for patients.

The new patient rooms could offer flexible temperature and lighting controls, dedicated space for families and carers to stay and support loved ones, digital access and charging points and common areas where patients can socialise and, in paediatric settings, access age-appropriate spaces.

With the design process underway, local residents will have their chance to help shape a once-in-a-generation investment in the area’s healthcare.

Robbie Moore MP said:

“Securing our new Airedale Hospital back in 2023 remains one of my proudest moments to date as our local MP and the recent appointment of the design team is another fantastic milestone as we enter phase three of this process. I truly believe our new hospital team have a real chance to create one of the most state-of-the-art hospitals in the country.

“This shift away from multi-bed wards to private ensuite rooms, whilst still maintaining common areas for patients, is a game-changer. It means patients will have more dignity in their care in quieter and more comfortable surroundings, with fewer risks of on-site infection.

It is imperative that the new government gets on with it and let the team at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust do their job - we cannot lose an inch of progress.”
