Local MP Robbie Moore has welcomed the progress being made to upgrade the Silsden to Kildwick towpath, with improvement works now well underway and an expected completion date in June.

Following a recent update meeting with the Canal & River Trust, who are delivering the works alongside contractor Bentleys, Mr Moore praised the efforts of the team and highlighted the benefits the upgrades will bring to local residents and visitors alike.

The project is focused on making the route safer and more accessible for all, including people with mobility issues.

Improvements include resurfacing and widening the path to make it easier for walkers and cyclists to use in all weathers, removing unnecessary access barriers, and adding clear signage along the route.

Grass verges and native plants are being preserved to support biodiversity and protect the local environment.

The scheme was made possible thanks to funding secured from the previous Conservative government’s Active Travel Scheme.

Robbie Moore MP said:

“This is a route used by so many people in our community, from dog walkers and families to cyclists and runners. The improvements being made as a result of funding from the previous Government will make a huge difference to everyone who use it, enhancing what is a picturesque route through our beautiful Yorkshire countryside. The Canal & River Trust and Bentleys are doing a brilliant job, and it was fantastic to see first-hand the work underway ahead of the expected opening date in summer.”
