Local Authority Boundaries Bill

My Local Authority Boundaries Bill is the latest part of my campaign to get Keighley and Ilkley, along with neighbouring Shipley, out of Bradford Council and forming their own local authority.

Passing its first reading unanimously on 7 December 2022, my bill's second reading is due on 24 March 2023.

The outline of the bill provides for two or more parliamentary constituencies to form their own unitary authority on the basis that:

  1. Public support for the new authority is gained through a referendum
  2. The newly created and residual local authorities are organisationally and financially viable, and capable of delivering services to local residents.

Breaking away from Bradford Council

Local representation matters, and individuals need to have trust in their local authority to act in their best interests.
