It’s Official - Constituency name to change to “Keighley & Ilkley”

The Boundary Commission have officially adopted local MP Robbie Moore’s proposals to change the name of the Keighley constituency to “Keighley and Ilkley”, it has been confirmed today.

Mr Moore launched his campaign to change the name of the constituency in 2021, arguing that the Commission should “make sure that no part of our constituency feels forgotten about or left behind.”

The proposals were recognised in the Boundary Commission’s Initial report, and have now been officially adopted in the Final Report released today (28th June).

With a population of around 15,000 Ilkley is the second most prominent town within the constituency, and given that many refer to Ilkley in the constituency name, Mr Moore argued that it was right to officially ensure the name change takes place before the next general election.

Mr Moore’s full comments to the Commission last year can be found here: https://www.bcereviews.org.uk/node/75768/view.

Robbie Moore MP said:

“It is fantastic to see that the Boundary Commission have now officially adopted my proposals to change the name of our constituency to “Keighley and Ilkley”, which will better reflect our two principal towns. With a population of around 15,000, Ilkley is the second most prominent town within the constituency. Given that many people already refer to Ilkley in our constituency name, it is only right that both areas are recognised in this name-change, and I would like to thank everyone who helped contribute to this campaign during the consultation process.”
